I started my blog three years back, and to be honest, I never thought I would get this far.

It was on a whim that I started my blog, and I was very nervous about putting it out there because I wouldn’t know about who’s going to read it and whether they would like it or not.

So, you might ask, which web hosting did I choose?

Well, it was HostGator.

Why HostGator?

Because I didn’t have any earthly idea about which is the best hosting and all that, but I felt that HostGator price was within my budget. Besides this, the features looked so great at that time.

Am I still using it?

Absolutely! Why would I even want to part with the best web hosting provider?

Well, if you are planning to start your blog, my recommendation would be to choose HostGator.

So, how does one purchase web hosting?

Let’s dive into that below.

How to Purchase Web Hosting?

Purchasing web hosting is quite easy and simple, but before we get to know, you should understand why you need to buy web hosting and what is web hosting!

So, what is web hosting?

Web hosting is a service that is provided by various organizations to post a website or web page on the Internet. These websites are hosted or stored on special computers called servers.

But purchasing web hosting is not the only that you need to do. You need a domain name as well for starting your blog. If you don’t have a domain name, then you have to direct people to a weird-looking temporary URL.

Why Choose HostGator Web Hosting?

Don’t just choose a web hosting just because someone recommends it to you. You should do your due research before choosing one.

Well, then here are a few reasons why you should choose HostGator as your web host.

  • HostGator has some of the best web hosting plans that are available nowadays. These plans are very affordable, and along with that, these plans come with a lot of benefits and features. These would be the best fit for beginners.
  • HostGator probably has the best customer support. Almost all of your queries and issues will be solved within a moment’s notice. The staff is quite knowledgeable, and they are available 24/7 throughout the year. They provide support through Live chat and phone call and the response time is very fast as well. Let’s talk more about this below.

  • They have a website builder as well, that will help you in making your website with ease. You don’t have to be an expert in designing or coding for making your website. Just get this tool, and it will help you to make a professional-looking website with the help of premium templates within a few moments.
  • The plans available with HostGator come with a lot of features such as Free SSL certificates, unmetered bandwidth, Free Website/cPanel website transfer, etc. These are very important not just for new bloggers but for the experienced bloggers/webmasters as well.

But that’s not even the best feature that has to offer. HostGator also provides its users with a free domain.

So, if you are someone who is just starting out, you can get your first domain from here rather than spending extra money on purchasing this.

This benefit is available with the shared web hosting plans, and these plans are the plans that are most suitable for new bloggers.

Here’s a little piece of information about these plans.

Shared Hosting Plans Available with HostGator

There are three shared web hosting plans that are available with HostGator; Hatchling Plan, Baby Plan, and Business Plan.

The Hatchling Plan is the most basic plan that is available with HostGator, and the features provided by this plan are one domain, Free SSL certificates, Unmetered Bandwidth. The plan might seem to a bit cheap for you, but if you can manage a little bit more, then you can get a better deal out of HostGator.

The Baby plan is what I was referring to as the better deal because this is the most popular plan available with them. This plan has similar features as the Hatchling plan such as Free SSL certificates, Unmetered Bandwidth, Free WordPress/cPanel website transfer, and a free domain as well.

But the best thing about this plan is that you get Unlimited Domains with it. By unlimited, I mean to say that you can add an unlimited number of websites to this web hosting plan.

Moving on to the Business Plan, this one comes with the same features as the Baby Plan, but it has a few more added bonuses to it. Such as a Free Dedicated IP, Free SEO Tools, and Free Upgrade to Positive SSL.

Purchasing Web Hosting and Registering A Domain Name

Purchasing web hosting is just like making any other online purchase. You just go to HostGator.com, and there select the plan that you like and then follow the steps that have been provided below to register a domain name and then complete the whole process of purchasing web hosting

Step 1

After choosing the plan, you will redirect to HostGator’s Domain Registration Tool. Now, if you already have a domain then you can just skip to Step 2.

Enter a domain name of your choice and check whether it is available or not. If it’s available, then choose an extension of your choice (.com, .co, etc.). After that is done, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2

This step requires you to choose just the billing cycle as you have already chosen the plan that you want to pick.

Step 3

Create an Account by providing the necessary details. Also, make sure that you save them somewhere secure, as these would be necessary for accessing your account.

Step 4

After that, enter your billing information and fill out all the details that are necessary.

Step 5

Here you are required to choose any add-on you want to take or not. It’s not something mandatory, but these would make it’s your site secure and will also help you in many different ways.

Steps 6

It will ask you for a coupon code. So, if you have one, then you can just apply it or leave it as it is.

And after all that, you need to agree to the terms and conditions of HostGator and click on “Checkout Now.”

And that’s it. This is how you purchase and web hosting and register a domain name.

But that’s not the end of it. You are also required to install a CMS, which will help you publish content on your blog.

Now, there are quite a few CMS platforms such as Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, etc. My suggestion would be to go with WordPress as this is the simplest CMS, and more than half of the websites in the world run on WordPress.

So, how do you install WordPress?

Steps to Install WordPress

After completion of the purchases, you will receive an email with the cPanel username and password and link to access you cPanel.

Now, what is cPanel?

Commonly it is called Control Panel, and it will help you in managing your web hosting. The cPanel link is very important, so make sure to keep it as a bookmark. The steps have been provided below; follow them accordingly.

Step 1

Log in t the cPanel and then quickly search for the Quick Install icon. There you will come across the WordPress option. Click on that to get it installed.

Step 2

Now, select the domain for which you want to install WordPress and then click on the Next button.

Step 3

After this, you will be redirected to another window, and there you have to fill in the necessary tabs accordingly, and after this, you are required to agree to the terms and conditions of service.

When all that is done, click on Install WordPress, and you are done.

You can check the progress bar at the top to know whether the installation has been completed or not.

You will receive a link to your WordPress dashboard, and along with that, you will also receive the Username and Password of the same.

Now, you can get started working on your website.

So, this is how you start a blog.
